Al currently teaches Hort 320 – Environment of Horticultural Plants every Fall semester. The course goes over (physical) aspects that determine climatic conditions, how these can be controlled in production systems, and how plants respond to these conditions at the physiological level. Course learning outcomes include:
- Learn how to explain effects of major environmental factors (temperature, water, light) on plant growth and development.
- Learn to examine plant responses to identify effects of different weather or climate components
- Reflect on how changes in climate will affect plants (both cultivated and native) at their current distribution
- Learn to explain how development stages in plants are effective integrators of climate data
